Furnace replacement

from $4,200

Sized properly for your house, not guessed from square footage. We run a heat-loss calculation so you aren't sold more furnace than a Winnipeg winter needs.

What's actually causing it

Sized by guesswork instead of a heat-loss calculation

A furnace picked off square footage alone is routinely wrong for the house — usually oversized, which short-cycles and wears out faster, or undersized for additions and finished basements built after the original install.

Standard-efficiency unit venting through a chimney

Anything under roughly 90% AFUE vents hot exhaust up a metal chimney and loses a meaningful share of every dollar of gas straight outside. A 96%+ high-efficiency condensing furnace recovers more of that heat before venting.

Side-wall venting needs to be sited correctly

High-efficiency furnaces vent through PVC pipe out a side wall, which has to clear windows, grade, and the spots that catch the worst snowdrift on your specific house — get that placement wrong and the vent ices over or drifts shut in the next storm.

Ductwork inherited from the old system

A new furnace bolted onto undersized or leaky existing ductwork won't deliver the efficiency gain on the sticker. We check the ducts as part of the install, not after the fact.

What we do

Straight answers

How long does a furnace replacement actually take?

Most standard installs are done in one day, including hauling away the old unit. A more involved job — rerouting venting, upgrading ductwork — gets flagged when we quote it, not discovered halfway through.

Will my existing ductwork work with a new furnace?

Usually, but we check rather than assume. A high-efficiency furnace moving air through undersized or leaky ducts won't hit the efficiency the label promises, so we'll tell you if anything needs modifying before we install.

Where does the vent pipe go on a high-efficiency furnace, and why does that matter here?

Out a side wall in PVC, not up a chimney. In Winnipeg the placement matters more than it would somewhere milder — put it where snow drifts against the house or where roof-shed piles up, and it'll ice over or block in the first real storm. We site it to avoid that.

What size furnace do I actually need?

Whatever a heat-loss calculation for your specific house says — not a square-footage rule of thumb, and not simply matching what's already installed if the house has changed since it went in. Oversized is just as much a problem as undersized: it short-cycles and wears out early.

Do you handle the rebate paperwork?

Yes, as part of the install. Efficiency Manitoba's high-efficiency furnace rebate forms are the kind of paperwork most homeowners never get around to — we complete and submit them for you.
